In February 1988, I was invited by the Porsche factory to visit Stuttgart and to pick up a brand new black Porsche 911 Carrera for a 10 day all expenses paid vacation in Germany and St. Moritz Switzerland.Porsche 959

When I arrived at the Porsche European delivery center to pick up my car, I was thrilled to spot a few Porsche 959 models in the process of being delivered to their new lucky owners. One of the Porsche reps took me outside (no cameras allowed) and showed me a line-up of over 150 959's in the same parking lot all at once! This was an incredible sight considering the worldwide production of this sensational machine only amounted to a little over 200 cars! The 959 is based on the 911 Carrera with the same wheelbase, roof section and almost identical cockpit layout. Almost everything else is different. The lower body was reshaped for improved aerodynamics and controlled airflow to service the many ducts and vents. The result is a 0.31 drag coefficient and zero lift.Porsche 959

The 959 is powered by an exotic 2849 cc 4 valve/cylinder flat six featuring water-cooled heads, titanium connecting rods and twin KKK turbocharger producing 450 hp at 6500 rpm.
Porsche chose a unique full-time four-wheel drive system and 6-speed gearbox to get the power to the road. This system is computer controlled or the driver may manually select torque proportioning based on road condition. It is all done via the wheel mounted speed sensors of the anti lock braking system, which is essentially 911 turbo with larger front discs.

The Suspension employs classic double wishbone design plus twin shock absorbers and coil springs at each wheel. The shocks are computer controlled to automatically lower the car slightly when speeds reach 150 kph or higher.

The 959 was available to Porsche customers in 3 versions: comfort, sport and full race. Performance of all versions of the 959 was sensational! Porsche 959 With a curb weight of 2977 lbs, the 959 could sprint from 0 - 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds and top out at over 320 kph!

The 959 is one of the rarest cars in the world and will still outperform nearly every car in production today. If there are any owners out there that would like to offer me a ride (especially 864 Z-7854 or 864 Z-7866) please do not hesitate to call.
